Plantar Fasciitis and Foot Pain

Plantar Fascia is a ligament that connects your heel to the front of your foot. It acts as a shock absorber and supports the arch of your foot. This ligament experiences a lot of wear and tear in your daily life, and too much pressure on your feet can damage or tear the ligament. This damage causes stabbing pain that usually occurs with your first steps after you wake up in the morning. As you continue to move around, the pain can decrease. However, it can also return after long periods of standing.

At Whole Body Healthcare, located in Baltimore, Maryland, we use Trigger Point Injections to help treat Plantar Fasciitis. A Trigger Point Injection is a small needle which contains lidocaine and saline. The volume of the saline is what bursts the trigger point, relieving stress from the muscles and allowing your body to work more effectively.

While a common treatment option is a prescription pain killer, this only treats the effects of the Plantar Fasciitis, not the Plantar Fasciitis itself. A physical therapy regime is a great way to treat the cause of the pain. Learning a series of stretching, as well as how to apply athletic tape to support the bottom of your foot are great ways to resolve discomfort of Plantar Fasciitis.
